Sheriff Mike Kelly

Sheriff Mike Kelley is a 36-year veteran of the Will County Sheriff’s Office.  He was elected Sheriff in 2014 and is now serving his third term. Since beginning his career as a deputy, he worked in the Patrol Unit, the Adult Detention Facility, the Will County Courthouse Security Unit, the Fugitive Warrants Unit, and as a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Unit.  Prior to Sheriff Kelley being promoted to Sergeant in 2007, he also served as an Investigator for the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.  Upon his promotion, he was re-assigned to the Criminal Investigation’s Unit. 

Sheriff Kelley is a lifelong resident of Will County and has dedicated his life and career to public service.  He has served on numerous city and township boards and held elected positions in local government prior to becoming Sheriff.   He also served as a member of the Metropolitan Alliance of Police, the Illinois Homicide Investigators Association, and a Member of the Moose.  He was formerly a member of AFSCME #2961 and served as an Executive Board Member.  He also served as an Executive Board Member for the Federal Order of Police (FOP) Union, FOP Labor Council, and the Metropolitan Alliance of Police #123 Union (MAP).

Over the years, Sheriff Kelley has been recognized for his dedication and accomplishments to this department, as well as to Will County residents.  He has received the Sheriff’s Office Distinguished Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, and Unit Award.  He was recognized by the Illinois Crime Commission as “Sheriff of the Year” in 2017.
